The 56th Annual Meeting of the Society of Toxicology gathers the best science from across a diverse spectrum of topic areas, research fields, and communities for an enlightening and thought-provoking exploration of the latest research and achievements in the field of toxicology.

The NC3Rs will have an exhibition stand within the ToxExpo, and are hosting an exhibitor-session entitled ‘Global Initiatives for Replacement, Refinement and Reduction in Animal Use within Toxicology Programs’ which will take place on Monday 13 March from 3-4pm ET.

This session will highlight opportunities for reductions or refinements in animal use, within (bio)pharmaceutical toxicology programs. It brings together scientists and regulators from NC3Rs-led, international consortia to discuss initiatives investigating future efficiencies in study designs and promoting best practice. Chaired by NC3Rs Board member Professor Ian Kimber (Manchester University), the confirmed topics and speakers are as follows:

  • Introduction to the NC3Rs Program of work in Toxicology and Regulatory Sciences: Dr Helen Prior (NC3Rs, UK)
  • Reducing the use of Recovery Animals: Professor Paul Baldrick (Covance, UK)
  • Microsampling refinements and reductions in toxicology studies: Dr Laura Patrone (BMS, USA)
  • Use of a Second Species in Regulatory Toxicology Studies:  Dr Helen Prior (NC3Rs, UK)

A poster on the CRACK IT Challenge QSARS Mix will be presented on Thursday 16 March (8.30-11.45am; poster number P365). Dr Natalie Burden is also a co-author on a poster entitled ‘Strategic toxicity testing approaches for agrochemicals incorporating '3R' principles of animal welfare and enabling global harmonization’ in collaboration with scientists from two regulatory bodies, one CRO and four agrochemical companies (poster number P464, Thursday 16 March, 8.30-11.45am).

Registration is open until 12 February, with the opportunity to register at the event thereafter. For more information, please visit the SOT 2017 website.
