The 2015 CRACK IT Challenges competition consists of two Challenges identified jointly by the NC3Rs and Sponsors. This year the competition is funded by the NC3Rs and Dstl and supported by Innovate UK (SBRI). There are five Sponsors (Unilever, GlaxoSmithKline, Stiefel, Dstl and Novartis).
The Challenges are detailed in the Challenge briefs which include a description of the problem to be solved, the 3Rs benefits, the names of the Sponsors and the nature of their proposed in-kind contributions, the notional financial cost of the project (the sum to be awarded by the NC3Rs), the potential timescale of the work and proposals for the organisation of the project . The 2015 Challenges are listed below:
- Metaboderm: Development of a new tool to predict metabolism in human skin (Sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline, Unilever, Stiefel and Dstl)
- InMutaGene: Development of a technology to address the risks of insertional mutagenesis/oncogenesis and to improve the efficiency of translational research in gene therapy (Sponsored by GlaxSmithKline and Novartis)
The agenda can be found here.
The meeting will consist of introductory talks on CRACK IT and open innovation in the current economic landscape.
There will also be Challenge surgeries where Sponsors will introduce their specific Challenge and answer questions from registrants and potential applicants. Each Challenge surgery will be run twice, once in the morning and again in the afternoon. Delegates will be able to attend a maximum of two Challenge surgeries during the event.
There will be a networking session where delegates have the opportunity to meet potential new collaborators and partners to solve the Challenges.
The launch event is free to attend but registration is essential.
