Institute of Animal Technology Congress 2018

Tuesday 20 March 2018 to Friday 23 March 2018
Northern England

The main purpose of Institute of Animal Technology (IAT) Congress is to introduce Animal Technologists to the latest developments in all aspects of animal based research and technology. The programme will feature workshops, paper presentations, a trade exhibition and entertainment.

Dr Katie Lidster will be leading a workshop on "Identifying, evaluating and validating refinements to animal care and use", to be held on Wednesday 21 March 2-4pm and Thursday 22 March 11.30am-1.30pm. Introducing refinements in the laboratory benefits the lifetime experience of research animals and improves scientific quality. However, such refinements require careful evaluation and validation to ensure that they benefit animal welfare and an evidence base supports putting the new approaches into practice. The aim of this interactive workshop is to inspire delegates to improve laboratory animal care and use by providing practical approaches to identify, evaluate and validate opportunities for refinement.

Topics covered will include:

  • providing the tools and knowledge to successfully introduce refinements
  • short talk experiences from technologists and animal welfare scientists on novel refinements they have implemented using this method
  • exploring practical approaches to using this method in your own facility

The closing date for registration is 2 March 2018. Further information, including how to register and a full event programme, is available on the IAT website.
