We have transformed the CRACK IT website into a new Innovation Platform with a refreshed design and features that better showcase our CRACK IT Challenges and Solutions programmes.


The Innovation Platform will support researchers and SMEs to access the expertise and funding required to develop their 3Rs technologies into industry-ready products and services, as well as enabling them to identify partners who can validate or apply these technologies.

Join the NC3Rs Board and help shape our 3Rs strategy


We are seeking up to four new members to join our Board from 1 January 2020. Our Board supports our work by advising us on strategy and monitoring our use of resources and the delivery of our work plan. If you are a senior scientist in academia or industry, or a senior manager or veterinarian in a laboratory animal facility, we would like to hear from you.


The deadline for applications is 4pm on 12 June. Interviews will be held on 15 July.




Last call for Pint of Science 2019


From 20 to 22 May, we are sponsoring three events as part of this year’s Pint of Science festival, which brings researchers into pubs around the world to speak about their work. Tickets are still available for our events in London and Newcastle – grab yours now for only £4 each.




In vitro platform for retinal toxicity assessment and disease modelling


Are you looking for a 3Rs approach for assessing the safety and efficacy of ocular compounds?


Newcells Biotech Ltd. have developed an in vitro model of the retinal pigment epithelium derived from healthy and diseased human induced pluripotent stem cell lines. They are seeking an end-user pharmaceutical company to help validate the model and provide access to ocular compounds and data with known toxicity profiles.




Awards to accelerate translation of 3Rs technologies for industrial use


We've awarded four grants totalling £200k under our new Technologies to Tools scheme, launched as a strategic collaboration with Medicines Discovery Catapult. The awards will support the translation of technologies developed through NC3Rs grant funding into industry-ready products and services, to support improved medicines discovery and maximise the 3Rs impacts.




Register now for the NC3Rs/IAT Animal Technicians’ Symposium 2019


2 October 2019 (Central London)


In October we will be hosting a symposium with the IAT, primarily aimed at junior animal technicians. Speakers from academia and industry will present the latest approaches to improving the welfare of laboratory animals. The programme features opportunities to network, present a poster or deliver a flash presentation on a topic relevant to the 3Rs.


Attendance is free, but registration is essential. The deadline to register is 13 September.




3Rs speakers wanted for the 2019 LASA Annual Conference


LASA is inviting submissions for presentations on any aspect of the 3Rs for the 2019 LASA Annual Conference. Early career researchers are particularly encouraged to apply. Speakers will receive free registration, as well as travel expenses and overnight accommodation if required.

The AAALAC/IQ Consortium Global 3Rs Awards: call for nominations


The Global 3Rs Awards programme recognises significant 3Rs innovations by any researcher in academia or industry. Nominations should be based on a primary research paper published in a peer-reviewed journal in the last three years that advances any of the 3Rs.


The deadline to submit a nomination is 4pm (EDT) on 1 June.
