Strategic funding call now open

The NC3Rs is seeking high-quality research proposals to address genuine technological challenges in preclinical imaging, this strategic call for funding supports the development of preclinical imaging to advance the 3Rs in the areas of:

  • Tracking cell fate and distribution
  • 3D gene expression profiling
  • Imaging bioengineered tissues
  • Molecular imaging of biodistribution
  • Improving sensitivity and resolution
  • Phenotyping genetically modified mice

A total budget of up to £1m is available for high quality and innovative applications. Awards can be for any period up to 3 years. The strategic call follows a workshop, co-hosted with the Technology Strategy Board-funded Electronics, Sensors and Photonics Knowledge Transfer Network (ESP KTN) to bring together the preclinical imaging community with technology developers/manufacturers and other researchers from across sectors and disciplines. Providing an open forum for dialogue and information exchange, the six key areas identified will address genuine technological and 3Rs challenges in preclinical imaging.
