ETT S.p.A have developed a model that cultures rat primary cortical neurons on MEA neurochips to provide a testing platform to evaluate the toxicity profile and the dose-response relationship of compounds. By using this MEA-based method, it is possible to prepare about thirty MEAs from only one embryonic rat cortex, reducing the number of animals required. Collaborators in the agrochemical, pharmaceutical and chemical sectors are sought to help validate the integrated approach for assessing neurotoxicity in vitro.
