2013 CRACK IT Challenges announced

The 2013 CRACK IT Challenges competition consists of five Challenges identified jointly by the NC3Rs and sponsors who provide in-kind contributions and such as data, compounds or equipment. This year the competition is co-funded by the Technology Strategy Board and Alzheimer’s Research UK. Full details of the Challenges and sponsors can be found here.

First Solutions award made

Professor Robin Williams from Royal Holloway, University of London, has become the first recipient of CRACK IT Solutions funding. Working with GlaxoSmithKline and Syngenta, Professor Williams will use the award to further develop his social amoeba (Dictyostelium discoideum) model of emetic liability and to explore the potential of the model for assessing palatability of new drugs and chemicals. GlaxoSmithKline and Syngenta will provide appropriate test compounds and associated data, as well as their expertise in making the model viable for industrial use.

£993,000 Challenge funding awarded to Phase 1 finalists

CRACK IT seeks proof-of-concepts to replace, reduce and refine animal use across efficacy and safety testing

The CRACK IT open-innovation platform has awarded £993,000 to 11 challenge finalists who have been given just six months to develop the most successful proof-of-concepts for five business and technology challenges in preclinical research.

CRACK IT 2012: Call for Challenges

CRACK IT 2011 showcased 6 Challenges, invested £3.5 million and connected 19 organisations from 5 sectors in 5 new projects to develop innovative products to address bioscience needs.

We are continuing to invest in Challenges which will benefit science, business and the 3Rs. CRACK IT stimulates three way partnerships between NC3Rs, industry sponsors and the research community to provide solutions to global challenges in the pharmaceutical, chemical and consumer products industries.
