The RSPCA Animals in Science department's Focus on Severe Suffering initiative focuses on avoiding or refining procedures that cause the highest levels of pain, suffering or distress for laboratory animals. The theme of their 7th international meeting will be Progress in refinement: Addressing severe suffering across disciplines.
The programme features presentations by speakers from industry and academia. Sessions include:
- Case studies in oncology.
- Case studies in neuroscience.
- Case studies in infectious diseases.
- Compassion fatigue.
- Roadmap to reducing severe suffering workshop (run in parallel in both English and Spanish).
Places are limited and a waiting list will be opened once capacity is reached.
Registration for this event is free and open to participants who are directly involved in the care, use or regulation of animals in science. This includes scientists, animal technicians, lab animal vets, regulators and members of Animal Welfare Bodies and Animal Ethics Committees but not the general public.
