Registration Details
Implementing the principles of the 3Rs is essential for conducting humane animal research and achieving high-quality scientific outputs. Everyone involved in animal research is responsible for putting the 3Rs into practice, but animal technicians hold an important front-line position for advancement of the 3Rs. The work of animal technicians is not just of interest to the research community but also to the wider public, providing insight into the day-to-day life of laboratory animals. From picking up a mouse using refined handling techniques, to providing and evaluating environmental enrichment, projects undertaken by animal care staff provide an opportunity to communicate real life experiences in implementing refinements in a laboratory setting by those who have driven the change.
Programme
We will discuss how to communicate your work on the 3Rs to different audiences, from presenting your work at a team meeting or producing a poster for a conference through to talking to the public about what you do at a public engagement event.
Topics will include:
- Why it is important to share your work with others.
- How to define your audience and tailor your messages.
- How to place the 3Rs impact of your work at the centre of your messaging.
- Tips for data visualisation.
- Case studies of successes in these areas.
There will be optional drop-in sessions where you can either get feedback on an elevator style pitch of your work or advice on how to present your data.
Facilitated by
- Emma Stokes, Head of Communications.
- Dr Genevieve Barr, Science Manager – Communications.
- Dr Natalie Carter, Head of Academic Engagement & Partnerships.
