Bridging the 3Rs "valley of death": the NC3Rs strategy 2017 to 2019
Today we have published a strategy document which sets out our plans for the next three years.
A major focus of the strategy is accelerating the uptake of 3Rs technologies and approaches to bridge the gap between development and adoption into routine use – a 3Rs equivalent to the “valley of death” that is observed in the translation and commercialisation of basic science. The barriers to uptake of 3Rs innovations are often complex and relate to a lack of awareness of, or confidence in, 3Rs approaches. Our strategy includes a range of exciting initiatives to address this, from new funding schemes to de-risk the transfer of 3Rs technologies between labs, to improving the publication of 3Rs approaches in the scientific literature, and the appointment of regional NC3Rs staff to support universities in their commitment to the 3Rs.
