If you are attending the British Toxicology Society (BTS) Annual Congress in Solihull, please come and say hello at booth #3. Our NC3Rs Toxicology and Regulatory Sciences team will be in attendance. Our contributions to this year’s programme include an oral presentation on the Two Species project, showcasing evidence supporting the use of a single species in chronic studies for small molecule pharmaceuticals. We will also be presenting findings from our recent survey on 3Rs regulatory ecotoxicology practices in contract research organisations, as well as our ongoing efforts to promote the use of new approach methodologies (NAMs) for endocrine disruption assessment and fish acute toxicity testing.
NC3Rs sessions, presentations and posters
Posters:
- Poster #33: Towards NAM-based frameworks for assessing endocrine activity in aquatic vertebrates: Outcomes from the 2025 Innovate EcoSafety Summit.
- Poster #37: Advancing confidence in NAMs for fish acute toxicity assessment: Outcomes from the 2025 Innovate EcoSafety Summit.
- Poster #48: Surveying regulatory ecotoxicology practices: Trends and 3Rs opportunities in contract research organisations. Amy will also present this as a flash presentation during Symposium 6 on the Wednesday (see below).
Sessions and presentations:
- Tuesday 28 April, 9.00 – 11.00
Fiona will be chairing Symposium 3 – New science-based approaches for hazard characterisation and classification. - Tuesday 28 April, 13.45 – 15.00
Elisa will be giving a talk on Evidence to support a single-species approach in later-development studies for small molecules in the Oral Communications session. - Wednesday 29 April, 9.30 – 11.15
Natalie will be chairing Symposium 6 – Towards practical application of next generation risk assessment for assuring environmental safety.
Natalie is also co-organising the joint BTS/Society for Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) UK workshop after the conference: Science shaping regulation – towards adoption of animal-free, exposure-driven approaches in UK chemical regulation for assuring environmental safety.
Taking place Wednesday 29 April, 13.30 – 18.00 it will bring together experts from academia, government, and industry, this workshop will explore how modern exposure science, new approach methodologies and innovative assessment frameworks can shape a more protective, forward-looking UK regulatory system.
