The second webinar in The Swedish 3Rs Center's 'Replace' webinar series focuses on intestinal permeability models and stem-cell derived intestinal organoids.
Speakers
Maria Karlgren – Associate Professor in Molecular Biopharmaceutics at the Department of Pharmacy at Uppsala University
Maria develops predictive in vitro models, for example in intestinal permeability, for more human-relevant drug discovery and research. She combines her models with completely animal-free media.
Maria Letizia Di Martino – Senior Researcher at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology at Uppsala University
Maria works in Mikael Sellin’s lab, where she leads research on stem cell-derived intestinal organoid models and bacterial genetics to investigate host-pathogen interactions.
About the webinar series
The 'Replace' webinars organised by The Swedish 3Rs Center highlight human-based models for better research and drug discovery, with a focus on organ-on-chip, organoids, predictive in vitro models and computational in silico approaches.
The series features speakers from academia, academic-industry collaborations and start ups. Scientists from across sectors and fields of research are welcome and early career researchers, including postdoctoral and doctoral students, are particularly encouraged to attend.
Other webinars
- Human in vitro brain models: 20 November.
- Human metabolism – Combining in vitro and in silico models: 4 December.
- Human in vitro oral cavity and liver models: 11 December.
The Swedish 3Rs Center is part of The Togeth3R Consortium, a group of eight 3Rs centres from Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.
