Habituation is an effective way to improve animal welfare by reducing stress in a research environment. To achieve this, a solid program of acclimatisation to study procedures is required. In this webinar, Manuela Teti (Labcorp) will provide practical guidance on habituating dogs, minipigs and non-human primates for cooperation with procedures to reduce stress during inhalation studies, blood sampling and ophthalmological exams.
The webinar will cover:
- How to approach habituation techniques to minimise animal stress during procedures with dogs, non-human primates and minipigs.
- The differences and similarities between species and individual animal temperament.
- Examples of habituation for inhalation safety studies, blood sampling using sling restraint and microsampling techniques and ophthalmological exams.
For further information read our guidance on training animals in our 3Rs resource library and explore our toxicology and regulatory sciences resources, including guidance on microsampling as a refined blood sampling technique.
This event is part of our welfare webinar series focusing on practical refinements for laboratory animals.
