Latest news from the NC3Rs: August 2026
Announced this month, £2M has been awarded across nine projects that will help accelerate the development and adoption of non-animal approaches for medicines development – we are delighted to be partnering with Innovate UK on this competition to deliver key commitments within the UK Alternatives Strategy, supporting the next generation of cardiovascular and pharmacokinetic assays and approaches. The latest publication from our project to drive the uptake of 3Rs approaches in biologics quality control and batch release testing highlights support for non-animal methods from manufacturers and national regulatory systems. While it is encouraging to see that many respondents to our worldwide stakeholder survey are already implementing alternative methods, the results emphasise the important role that regulators and international standards bodies have to play in ensuring mature alternatives are available and supported for adoption through funding, training and regulatory harmonisation.
