NC3Rs | 20 Years: Pioneering Better Science

Register for our online 3Rs Prize event

Our International 3Rs Prize is an opportunity to celebrate pioneering 3Rs science that has been published in the last two years. This year, the Prize recognises two papers that describe innovative animal-free methods with the potential to transform research in their fields. Join us at our online webinar later this week to hear about these exciting projects from the researchers themselves and from the Prize sponsors, GSK.

This year’s winning paper describes a tonsil organoid model of respiratory infection and immunity. It accurately reflects, for the first time, key aspects of the adaptive immune system in vitro and captures variation in immune responses between patients.

We have also highly commended a publication reporting the first in silico clinical trial for a medical device. The computational model exemplifies how animals can be replaced with virtual patient populations and assess patient risk on an individual basis.
