We host a symposium dedicated to promoting the welfare of non-human primates used in research, now held on a biennial basis. This unique event brings together researchers, veterinarians, animal care staff, facility managers and regulators, from national and international institutions, with a common interest in the welfare of laboratory-housed non-human primates. The aims of the meeting are to:
Support the development and implementation of evidence-based refinements in non-human primate care and use.
Provide a platform for sharing the output from NC3Rs-funded research.
Bring together those working with non-human primates to establish new contacts and exchange views and information.
The meeting is free to attend and open to laboratory personnel working directly with non-human primates.
The Primate Welfare Meeting is complemented by a network we established in 2013 to support Named Animal Care and Welfare Officers (NACWOs), who are responsible for the day-to-day care of non-human primates in UK laboratories, to disseminate practical information and ideas on refinement.
