Latest news from the NC3Rs: February 2026
With growing interest in the 3Rs catalysed by the Government’s 2025 replacing animals in science strategy, momentum for increasing the uptake of alternatives across the life sciences sector continues to build. This month, the NC3Rs has delivered a review of human relevant pre-clinical model development for the ABPI in order to accelerate the use of in vitro models in pharmaceutical R&D and, in partnership with Innovate UK, announced £2M to support adoption of non-animal approaches in key areas of drug safety assessment. Looking to our animal welfare programme, if you are attending the Institute of Animal Technology (IAT) Congress next month, visit our stall in the exhibition hall to learn more about our 3Rs resources and support for animal technicians. We are also running a workshop to support the uptake of refined mouse handling techniques consistently across different research settings and scenarios – be sure to register when workshop bookings open!
