Latest news from the NC3Rs: December 2025
We had the privilege of hosting the Minister for Science, Innovation, Research and Nuclear at our end of year team meeting this week – it was a great opportunity to hear from Minister Vallance in person, showcase our work and discuss our role in delivering the government’s alternatives methods strategy. As we reach the end of the year we have been reflecting on the impact of our research funding through the latest Researchfish data. 69% of our grant holders already report a 3Rs impact, where models, methods or technologies developed with our funding are being used in practice to replace, reduce or refine the use of animals – with a quarter of the grants still active and work in progress. We are proud of the enthusiasm and dedication of our researchers to maximising the 3Rs impacts of their work, with £430M of further funding secured and 2,311 publications (with an FCR of 3.85, highlighting the influence of the work we fund).
We would like to thank everyone who has attended our events and webinars, visited our 3Rs resource library and website, joined our 3Rs Networks and followed our latest news and updates on LinkedIn and Bluesky this year – and the ~800 new subscribers to our newsletter!
The NC3Rs team wishes you a restful Christmas break. Please note that the NC3Rs office will be closed from Wednesday 24 December until Monday 5 January 2026.
